Do’s
1st a Warning
DO DO DO be careful when walking on the roads of Goa, always walk facing oncoming traffic and keep well in on the pavement / hard shoulder, you will find that drivers overtake with little regard to pedestrians.
DO Enjoy your holiday, we normally find that new visitors, in their first few days are overcome with Goa, the sights, sounds, smells etc. do not become glued to your poolside, it is easy to be lured by the delights of your hotel.
DO get out and see the beauty of the inland parts of the state, the citys, markets, churches and temples.
DO Agree a price with your Taxi driver before setting off on your journey, make sure the price agreed is complete for all the persons in your party and that there are no extras, on completion of your journey DO give your driver a tip, he will probably not own the taxi, but be working for a Boss, if you get a good driver, treasure him he is worth his weight in gold.
DO visit a Church or Temple whilst in Goa, they are amazing architectural buildings and must be seen.
DO get to see a sunset, get down to the beach about an hour or so prior to sunset, get a couple of drinks, get comfortable, listen to the music and chill out, this is what Goa is all about…….you may find that the 1st sunset you see is not that spectacular, don’t worry there is another tomorrow, keep trying and you will be treated to a spectacular display.
DO get to eat at a beach shack, the food can be very good and the view……….well.
DO NOT get involved in drugs in Goa…….the punishments are very severe…..the film “Papillion” was part filmed in Goa…….just stick to the “Kingfisher Beer”
DO be careful of you valuables, ladies should be careful of over shoulder bags and passing motor cyclists, also it is a great idea to take a security box at your hotel, these can be shared if necessary, if you are at a Guest House with no facilities, approach a nearby Hotel they will probably hire you a box.
Don’ts
1st a Warning
DON’T expect to be rescued by as lifeguard if you get in trouble swimming, there are very few lifeguards, just a few for the whole of Goa, at certain times of the tide the undertow from the waves can be very dangerous, Don’t go into the sea after drinking….because you may drown…..the best place to swim in Goa is in your Hotel Pool.
DON’T miss out on attending a Saturday Night Market, they are great fun, in the cool of the evening, very colourful with lots of bargains to be picked up, clothing, artwork, patio lights etc etc all great value. (see Ingo’s market on Goa overview / Markets page)
DON’T change to much money, your money goes a long way in Goa, so £20 traveller cheques come into there own especially toward the end of your holiday….remember you cant take Rupees out of India, so only change small amounts toward the end of your holiday.
DON’T skimp on the sun protection cream, the UV rays will still burn you even under a beach shack……slap it on……… Remember Goa is located 15º North of the Equator, similar to the Caribbean, the UV Rays here are much stronger than back home.
DON’T forget to tell your friends about this site, ask them to view it and e mail us with any extras that should be included, please leave a message on our guest page……….see you in Goa
We would like to offer some advice on Malaria, please read up on the subject, a good site can be found on the following link Malariahotspots
Please take some advice from you local NHS health centre prior to travel, they will have the latest information on areas of risk, they will advise on relevant tablets, these have to be taken before, during and after your holiday.
Take sensible precautions also whilst on holiday, mosquitoes are about before and after dusk, try to keep your lower arms and legs covered for this period, and use a good protection cream or spray, Odomos is popular in GOA.
